What is vaginal bacterial infection?

Simply said vaginal bacterial infection is disbalance in vaginal flora. It happens when the number of bad bacteria outgrow the number of good bacteria.

Since vagina  and cervix are not sterile and will never be. There is always good and bad bacateria in vagina. That is normal. So there are around 30 different bacteria that are present at any time.

But the thing is if your vaginal pH is low ( normal vaginal pH is  3.8 - 4.5) then it won't be any infections. If vaginal flora is disturbed and pH is high then the bacteria can have fun and make really big mess down there.

Some bacteria and viruses are not common in our body like HIV , HPV, herpes 1 and 2, gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia and trichomoniasis, mycoplasma and ureaplasma.

So we need to keep our vaginal pH low with good bacteria ( probiotics and lactic acid ), good diet, low sugar intake and overall healthy lifestyle.

Vaginal swabs

If you have repeated vaginal infections like yeast infections, smelly vaginal discharge, abnormally discoloured discharge, irritation, itch, swelling and discomfort. You need to go to your doctor so he/she can take vaginal swab to determine what kind of infection is bacterial or viral.

Vaginal swabs are collected in the same way as Pap test, from your cervix and also vaginal wall.

Nothing more. It takse like 2 minutes to take vaginal swabs.

How many vaginal swabs my doctor can or must take ?

There is ;

  • swab for Chlamydia trachomatis
  •  swab for Mycoplasma hominis and Mycoplasma genitalium
  •  swab for Ureaplasma urealyticum and Ureaplasma parvum
  •  swab for HPV (humanpapilloma virus)
  •  swab for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria

Also from vaginal swabs in laboratory they can determine if you have Gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae), Trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis), Syphilis (Treponema pallidum), Yeast infection (Candida albicans), Genital herpes (Herpes simplex), Bacterial vaginosis (Gardnerella vaginalis, Atopobium vaginae) ,  Peptostreptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., and Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp.,  Mobiluncus, Prevotella spp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Enterococcus spp.

How to reduce the possibility of vaginal bacterial infections?

  • Avoid soft drinks, smoking, junk and processed food, too much coffee and tea, also high sugar intake.
  • Hormonal pill have also influence on repeated vaginal infections.
  • Another thing do not douche vulva, vagina and vaginal wall with soaps. Because it will wash out good bacteria and that will lead to itching, dryness and vaginal infection. Washing your genital region with plain water and not douching vaginal walls, is more then enough.
  • Try not to wear tight clothes. Because tight clothes, like jeans, tights, etc... does not allow your genital area to breathe. And that leads to constant moistness which in the end results with vaginal infection.
  • When you go to sleep try not to wear underwear. Because in that way your genital area can breathe.
  • Use pure cotton panties and skip the panties that are made with polyester, lycra, spandex etc...Do not use thongs.
  • Stop using sanitary pads on every day, whole day basis. They are also like tight clothes. They do not allow your genital region to breathe. And in the end you have repeated vaginal infections.
  • Always practice safe sex. Use condoms and change them every time when you swithcing from oral or annal or vaginal sex.
  • When you wipe your genital region after being on toilette always wipe from front to back .

We have covered the basics and now we can move on natural treatments for vaginal bacterial and viral infections.

IMPORTANT! Never use essential oils in pregnancy. Never! It is not safe.

About essential oils ;

Essential oils must always be high premium therapeutic grade. Today you can find so many companies that produce essential oils but only few of them are really thrue essential oils.

On the bottle and/or box must be written:

- The Latin name of the genus and plant types

It is important to know the exact species from which the essential oil obtained For example, for lavender, there are more types of lavender essential oils that give different effects due to differences in the chemical composition: Lavender "Lavandula angustifolia" broad-lavender "L. latifolia ', Spanish lavender "L. stoechas" lavender "L. hybrida". So there is more than one type of eucalyptus - "Eucalyptus globulus", "E. radiata", "E. citriodora" More Type of mint, pine, spruce, cedar, incense and other plants.

-The main chemical components - essential oil chemotype

The same type of plant, depending on the place of growth it gives the essential oil of different chemical composition and, of course, completely different mode of action.

-Part of the plant

For example, when the type of bitter orange "Citrus aurantium var. amara "from the leaves you get petitgrain. From husks of the fruits you get bitter orange oil and from flowers you get precious and expensive essential oil of neroli. This information is extremely important and respected manufacturers cite him for all the oil in its offer.

-Method of obtaining oil

The manner of obtaining the essential oil depends on what will be the chemical composition, and therefore his actions. For example, citrus essential oils can be obtained from the husks (fruit peel) with cold pressed and also with steam distillation. Therefore they are not the same in composition, activity and in their indications.

- The name of the country where the plant grew

To excellent aromatherapist name of the country may indicate chemotype oils and finesse of its scent. For example, rosemary that grew in Corsica was probably "chemotype verbenon", while the one from North Africa "cineole chemotype". Rose from Bulgaria smell is different than the one that is growing in Turkey or Iran, although the same type and chemotypes.

-The way of growing plants

The way of how the plant was cultivated it is speaking about the quality of the plants and the possible contamination of pesticides, organic fertilizers and other growth conditions. For example, the difference between: a traditional, conventional, organic, wild growth ...

- Lot number

Thanks to Lot number we can trace where the oil is produced, who it is analyzed, where it was stored ...

- Expiration date

It is not true that the shelf life of essential oils unlimited, as on most bottles writes. In general, citrus essential oils and one of the family "Pinus" have short duration. While "viscous" essential oils (cedar, frankincense, vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli ...) have a shelf life of five to ten years. Durability greatly depends on the storage of essential oils - dry, dark, cold place.

The term chemotype, which is essential, means precision among essential oils. The same species of plant, depending on the place of growth, microclimate and genetic modifications, provides the essential oil of different chemical composition and, of course, completely different mode of action. Therefore chemotype essential oil is about its main chemical components, action and indications.

For example, rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has three chemotypes of different composition and operation of which is camphor chemotype harmful to the liver and chemotype verbenon is for liver treatment, which clearly shows that this is not a harmless and insignificant differences. Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) has nine chemotypes different pharmacological action.

Essential oils are not something to play with. As they can be cure they can also be poison if you don't use high premium therapeutic grade essential oils and if you use them in the way " I think...." . No! You need to use essential oils like it is said in recepies. They are not toys or just fragrance. They are cure, remedy, medicine whatever you want to call it. Surely you wouldn't mess with antibiotics or some other pharmaceutical medicine. The same is with essential oils. You need to be very careful when you use them and only use high premium therapeutic grade essential oilsAlso do not ingest essential oils they are not made for eating or treating illnes by ingesting any  essential oils. There is no food grade essential oils. For essential oils to take them by mouth and ingest them they need to be prepared for that in special way in Oleocaps and they can only be prepared by educated person who knows pharmacology, pharmacognosy and phytoaromatherapy.

One more thing about essential oils always check latin name on the bottle. ALWAYS!

In women mycoplasma has been linked to conditions such as bacterial vaginosis (in which unusual bacteria occur inside the vagina, changing its natural pH balance and causing unpleasant discharge and odour); cervicitis (in which the lower genital tract becomes infected and causes inflammation of the cervix); pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and endometritis (infection of the endometrial lining).
It can cause premature birth.

Ureaplasma - also goes under mycoplasma bacteria. Ureaplasma infections in women of childbearing age are associated with complications in pregnancy, premature birth, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease and urethritis (inflammation of the urethra).
Ureaplasma can be transmitted by direct contact between people – genitals or mouths (or a combination of both), mother to child at birth or in utero. Also it can cause involuntary infertility. And it can cause placental inflammation and invade the amniotic sac early, causing adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Certain types of HPV infection cause cervical cancers. More than 150 varieties of human papillomavirus (HPV) exist. More than 40 types are transmitted through sexual contact and infect the anus and genitals.
Genital warts (condilomata acuminata) usually appear as a small bump or group of bumps in the genital area. They can be small or large, raised or flat, or shaped like a cauliflower.

How to boost your immune system?

When it comes to vaginal bacterial or viral infection this condition is not only affecting our genital area but also our whole body and immune system. Because of that to fight against infections we need help from vitamins, minerals, herbs and good bacteria.
It is very important to use vitamins, minerals, herbs and good bacteria because in that way we are going to strenght our body and immune system for the future. We can heal faster if we combine essential and base oils with vitamins, minerals, herbs and good bacteria.
With vaginal bacterial and viral infection comes other things like abnormal pap smear, irregular period, bleeding after intercorse, pain in uterus, ovaries or with urination, abnormal vaginal discharge, infertility, spontaneous abortion etc.

Vitamins and minerals;

-Beta Carotene -  25 000 IU one a day .

Beta Carotene, along with other carotenoids, is a molecule that the body easily changes into Vitamin A.  Beta-carotene is thought to possess many positive health benefits and in particular helps prevent night blindness and other eye problems.
It also effective in skin disorders, enhances immunity, protects against toxins and cancer formations, colds, flu, and infections. It is an antioxidant and protector of the cells while slowing the aging process.
It is considered that natural Beta-Carotene aids in cancer prevention. It is important in the formation of bones and teeth. No vitamin overdose can occur with natural Beta-Carotene. It has been reported that beta carotene offers a notable measure of photoprotection to individuals with porphyria.Vitamin A produced from beta carotene is also necessary for normal cell growth and cell division.  DNA replication requires the presence of vitamin A to function properly.Beta carotene helps activate your thymus gland, one of your most important sources of immune protection. The thymus gland stimulates your immune system to fight off infections and viruses, and destroy cancerous cells before they can spread.

-Vitamin C - 1,000-1,500 mg a day. Ascorbic acid or L - ascorbic acid there is no difference both are good ones.

Good old vitamin C is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It's involved in many body functions, including formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants that can protect against damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals can build up and contribute to the development of health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis. Vitamin C is not stored in the body (excess amounts are excreted), so overdose is not a concern. Vitamin C has internal antiviral and antibacterial activity and is beneficial in general immunity boosting.

-Vitamin E - 400 - 800 IU one a day (natural = d alpha-tocopherol , synthetic = dl alpha-tocopheryl ). We need natural vitamin E because it is drived from vegetable oil. Also it is very good to use mixed tocopherols vitamin E. Like d-Alpha Tocopherol, d-Beta Tocopherol, d-Delta Tocopherol and d-Gamma Tocopherol.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant. This means it protects body tissue from damage caused by substances called free radicals, which can harm cells, tissues, and organs. Vitamin E stimulates the production of natural killer cells that seek out and destroy germs and cancer cells.Vitamin E enhances the production of B-cells, the immune cells that produce the antibodies that destroy bacteria.

-B complex - 100 mg one a day .

Each B vitamin is essential to certain bodily functions: B1 and B2 are important for healthy functioning of the muscles, nerves, and heart; B3 helps regulate the nervous and digestive systems; B5 and B12 are required for normal growth and development; B6 supports the immune system and aids the body in breaking down protein; B7 is involved in the production of hormones; and B9 helps cells make and maintain DNA. the eight B vitamins — B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12 — play an important role in keeping our bodies running like well-oiled machines.

-Folate - 5 mg one a dayBest one is Methyl Folate (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid or (6S)-5-MTHF. You can read more here about Methyl Folate and how to use it.

Vitamin B9 or folate is very important for good pap smear results and for fight against HPV. According to a study conducted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham, low serum folate levels have been linked to the development of cervical dysplasia (caused primarily by HPV).  Folate is important in red cell formation and for healthy cell growth and function. It is also important for developing fetus during pregnancy.

-Selenium - 200 mcg  one a day. The L-selenomethionine.

This mineral increases natural killer cells and mobilizes cancer-fighting cells. Selenium works as an antioxidant, especially when combined with vitamin E. Antioxidants help fight damaging particles in the body known as free radicals. Free radicals can damage cell membranes and DNA, and may contribute to aging and health conditions, including heart disease and cancer. Selenium plays a role in thyroid function. Along with other minerals, selenium can help boost white blood cells, which improves the body's ability to fight illness and infection.

-Zinc - 30 mg  one a day. Chelated zinc - zinc glycinate or picolinate .

Zinc, being an important mineral, plays a vital role in protein synthesis and helps regulate the cell production in the immune system of the human body. This mineral increases the production of white blood cells that fight infection. Zinc increases the number of infection-fighting T-cells.
In females, zinc aids in all the reproductive phases, including the childbirth and lactation stages. Zinc acts as an antioxidant which means that it actively seeks out free radicals the hazardous byproducts of cell metabolism that can cause a number of diseases.

-Multivitamins -  with high strenght and good ratio.

-Omega 3 fatty acids -

Fish or flax seed oil. Omega 3 fatty acids powerfully boosts the immune system. Omega-3 supplementation increases the activity of white cells that eat up dangerous bacteria. Essential fatty acids also protect the body against damage from over-reactions to infection.

-Vitamin D - 2000 IU a day.

Low levels of the vitamin D can increase risk of type 1 diabetes, muscle and bone pain, and more serious illnes like cancers of the breast, colon, prostate, ovaries, esophagus, and lymphatic system.
Vitamin D stimulates your pancreas to make insulin. It regulates your immune system.
Regular sun exposure can stimulate the human skin to produce quantities of vitamin D that far exceed your needs. The good news is that you can't overdose on the vitamin D manufactured by your skin.
Also keep in mind that particularly in the higher northern latitudes, vitamin D levels can be problematic. If you live above 40 degrees north latitude you won't make much of any vitamin D in the winter. So taking vitamin D in pill form is necessary, but do not exceed 2000 IU a day since vitamin D is fat soluble. Which means it is stored in body and you can't flush it out.

Herbs for immune system:

-Echinacea - ( lat. Echinacea angustifolia, Echinacea pallida, and Echinacea purpurea. ) 1000 mg or more daily. You can use tincture alcohol free , capsules or drink tea.

Echinacea is well documented as an immune system booster used to both prevent and treat a long list of infections. Also it have reduce inflammation, and have hormonal, antiviral, and antioxidant effects. Echinacea promotes nonspecific T-cell activation, a type of white blood cell important in providing resistance to bacteria, yeast, fungi, parasites, and viruses (including herpes simplex, Epstein-Barr, and viruses that cause hepatitis).

- Bee propolis - you can use tincture alcohol free or in capsule form.

Propolis increases your white blood cell count. White blood cells defend against bacterial infections. Flavonoids in bee propolis are powerful antioxidants that protect the cell membrane. Bee propolis extract destroy potentially harmful foreign bacteria and help to build up antibodies that protect against infectious diseases. Propolis is rich in two important anti-cancer compounds: caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and artepillin C (ARC).

- Garlic - (lat. Allium sativum) raw, powder, capsules or liqiud form

The active ingredients in garlic is allicin Garlic enhance the functioning of the immune system by stimulating certain cell types, such as macrophages, lymphocytes, natural killer (NK) cells, dendritic cells, and eosinophils.Allicin has been shown to work with vitamin C to kill certain types of bacteria and viruses, and can help the immune system to protect you from colds and flu, Candida and some gastroenteric viruses. It can also be effective against some of the more powerful pathogens such as tuberculosis. Garlic has also been found to be able to help with certain types of cancer like colon, breast and ovarian cancer.

Good bacteria for immune system

Good bacteria are very important for overall health not just for vaginal flora. 100 trillion bacteria live in and on your body. Some are present on the surface of the skin and inside the mouth, nose and urogenital tract – but most live within your gut. Here the good bacteria can neutralise toxins, inhibit yeast and bad bacteria in the gut, whilst working to keep the gut healthy as well as beneficially influencing the immune system. The majority of the body's immune system is located within the digestive system. The gut flora helps to neutralise some of the toxic by-products of digestion, reduce harmful substances (such as toxins and carcinogens), and discourage 'bad' bacteria and yeasts. So using good bacteria on mouth and  lactic acid vaginal suppositories in vagina will undoubtedly help you to fight agains bacteria and viruses.

This would be it 🙂 . I hope this information will help you to fight for good health. Stay strong, stay healthy. And take good care of yourself and your health.
